10 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Spider-Man

5. Surviving Being Superior

At the beginning of the "Superior Spider-Man" story arc that ran through the Spider-Man titles, one of Dr. Octopus’ Octobots caused a swap between Peter and Ock, leaving Peter in his foe's dying body. Escaping from the maximum-security Raft Prison, Peter confronted Ock and was able to create a weak link into the mind of his body before Otto’s body finally gave out. Parker was able to put a piece of himself into his mind. Pete wasn’t able to control his body but he could communicate with the not-good Doctor.

Peter’s influence caused Otto to try to do Spidey’s job better. He planned to be a “superior” Spider-Man. Ock’s way of going about it completely upturned the life of Peter Parker. He pushes all of Pete’s allies and friends away with his arrogance. Getting fired from Horizon Labs, Spidey-Ock manipulated the market in his favor, created Parker Industries, and turned it into a multi-national corporation.

Completely overwhelmed by Green Goblin’s Goblin Nation in Superior Spider-Man #10, Doc Ock realized he failed completely at his task of becoming the Superior Spider-Man. Thus, he allowed the small part of Peter in his psyche to grow and take control of the Peter Parker body again. Otto realized that there could only be one Spider-Man, thus ending the "Superior Spider-Man Saga" with the defeat of the Goblin by Peter and SpiderMan 2099.
