6. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
DC ComicsA Green Lanterns ring is the most powerful tool in the universe. It grants the bearer the ability to create constructs of magnitude and complexity that are limited only by the their imagination and sheer force of will, the gift of flight, invisibility, matter manipulation, phasing, power absorption, mental suggestion, and access to a database of all known information in the universe. Kind of makes Batmans famed utility belt seem kind of pathetic, right? Why need all those gadgets when you can get one little ring that can do or create quite literally anything with a flick of your finger? Cause hes Batman, thats why. Rings are for pansies; real willpower means dismantling your foes after days of preparation, crafting just the right tools and laying out a plan of attack tailor-made for your target (not to mention you get constantly underestimated by your friends and foes alike). Or, sometimes, it just means a little redecorating.
DC Comics
All-Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder, a joint project between powerhouses Frank Miller and Jim Lee published in 2005-2008, features a Batman even more psychotic than the one were familiar with. All-Star Bruce has no problem running cops off the road, joyously beats criminals to within an inch of their lives, regularly abuses Alfred and a young Dick Grayson, and cackles in a fashion more befitting a certain deranged clown than Gothams protector. So when Hal stops by Wayne Manor on behalf of the newly formed Justice League to rough him up a bit and tell him to knock off his bat-$#!% behavior, Bruce has Dick paint the whole damn place yellow, the only thing or color a Green Lanterns ring seems to have performance issues around. Yellow walls, yellow furniture, yellow countertops, and yellow Batman calmly sipping on a tall, cool glass of lemonade. We all knew Bats wasnt afraid of taking a few cheap shots given the whole no superpowers deal, but thats just kind of low. Obviously Hal wasnt too jazzed about the new color palette, or having to walk away from the confrontation having accomplished nothing, but it just goes to show that when youre going toe to toe with Batman, its all about location, location, location.
