10 Times Batman Fought Well Above His Pay Grade

6. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

DC ComicsDC ComicsA Green Lantern€™s ring is the most powerful tool in the universe. It grants the bearer the ability to create constructs of magnitude and complexity that are limited only by the their imagination and sheer force of will, the gift of flight, invisibility, matter manipulation, phasing, power absorption, mental suggestion, and access to a database of all known information in the universe. Kind of makes Batman€™s famed utility belt seem kind of pathetic, right? Why need all those gadgets when you can get one little ring that can do or create quite literally anything with a flick of your finger? Cause he€™s Batman, that€™s why. Rings are for pansies; real willpower means dismantling your foes after days of preparation, crafting just the right tools and laying out a plan of attack tailor-made for your target (not to mention you get constantly underestimated by your friends and foes alike). Or, sometimes, it just means a little redecorating. DC ComicsDC ComicsAll-Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder, a joint project between powerhouses Frank Miller and Jim Lee published in 2005-2008, features a Batman even more psychotic than the one we€™re familiar with. All-Star Bruce has no problem running cops off the road, joyously beats criminals to within an inch of their lives, regularly abuses Alfred and a young Dick Grayson, and cackles in a fashion more befitting a certain deranged clown than Gotham€™s protector. So when Hal stops by Wayne Manor on behalf of the newly formed Justice League to rough him up a bit and tell him to knock off his bat-$#!% behavior, Bruce has Dick paint the whole damn place yellow, the only thing €“ or color €“ a Green Lantern€™s ring seems to have performance issues around. Yellow walls, yellow furniture, yellow countertops, and yellow Batman calmly sipping on a tall, cool glass of lemonade. We all knew Bats wasn€™t afraid of taking a few cheap shots given the whole no superpowers deal, but that€™s just kind of low. Obviously Hal wasn€™t too jazzed about the new color palette, or having to walk away from the confrontation having accomplished nothing, but it just goes to show that when you€™re going toe to toe with Batman, it€™s all about location, location, location.

Spencer is an avid lover of storytelling and cinema. This likely began in a simpler time when watching Indiana Jones kick the snot out of Nazis and pretending to be a velociraptor were standard fare for the day. He’s absurdly opinionated and somewhat stubborn, qualities only mildly offset by his awareness of his own insignificance. Spencer is nearly always restless, but he'll settle for food, friends, and a good pint anytime.
