2. When It Was Damian Wayne - Batman #666
As the issue number that this Batman first appeared in may suggest, this Dark Knight is a rather devilish character.
Under the cowl is an older Damian Wayne, one who seems to have gained the mantle through selling his soul - because that always works out for superheroes. The deal gained Damian a healing factor comparable to that of Deadpool or Wolverine, or just incredibly good luck; it's not made especially clear how he's survived very obviously deadly attacks.
Using his newfound abilities in combination with his smarts and skills, Damian turns Gotham into a trap-filled nightmare for his villains, and even murders a few using his bare hands. Early on, he even almost kills Bruce, but that's nothing new.
Ultimately, he does protect Gotham, but at what cost?
