10 Times Batman Went Too Far

2. Violated The Privacy Of Gotham's Citizens - The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is one of the bleakest sequels to a trilogy ever made, and considering that trilogies often put the dark one in #2, that's saying a lot. Not only does Batman lose and lose HARD, in many respects, it was probably for the best.

There are many examples of Batman going too far in this movie, but by far the worst is using the cell phones of every person in Gotham to act as a kind of sonar-esque tracking system. Great for when you need to intervene during the climax before the GCPD accidentally kills kidnapped civilians dressed as armed guards, but kind of an outright fascist breach of privacy outside of that very rare occurrence.

Sure, Batman ultimately understands this and shuts the whole thing down after that moment, but he thought it up at the beginning of the film, so it took him a WHILE before he took a step back and asked "hang on... I'm still the good guy for doing this, right?"

But hey, at least the story takes our side on this matter and has Batman try to correct the mistake he made. Puts it above our #1 spot, if nothing else.
