After Steve Rogers gave up the Captain America identity, the Commission hired John Walker to replace him. Walker had been the Super-Patriot, a right-wing superhero who led the Bold Urban Commandos (BUCKIES) in attacks on foreign exchange students. Captain America #335 features Walker's first mission as Captain America, with the soldier tasked with infiltrating the Watchdogs, a right-wing militia group. They were opposed to anything "indecent" or "immoral," like pornography, evolution, sex education, abortion, etc. Shockingly, however, Walker himself noted that he believes in those things as well. In the story itself, Walker and his partner, Lemar Hoskins (the new Bucky), go down to the new Cap's hometown in Georgia to find the Watchdogs, with Lemar posing as a pornographer that Walker fights to attract the Watchdogs. The Watchdogs try to lynch Lemar and when they go to burn down a library that refused to ban books, Walker finally takes them out. The issue was so controversial that it caused a member of the Moral Majority to write a letter in anger at the portrayal of his ideology.
