That said, Frank Miller is somewhat unparalleled in his ability to make the most unrelentingly grim superhero stories this side of Man Of Steel. His own alcoholism, misogyny and fascist leanings probably help in constructing such a worldview. And the first place he tried it out for a sustained period was on Daredevil. What was once a mostly fun-loving vigilante (albeit with a tragic origin), Miller made a man driven to the brink of insanity time and again by his actions. Born Again saw Frank Miller go all in with making Daredevil into a violent, deranged psychopath, thanks to The Kingpin systematically ruining his life. He probably can't blame Wilson Fisk for one incident in the story, however, where Matt Murdock is mugged on a subway train and defends himself in a slightly more zealous fashion than usual. It's not shown on panel but heavily implied with the narration that he just kills the three guys. Sure, they're muggers, but they didn't deserve that...
