Kevin Smith should not write comic books. He should stick to what he knows: penning gross-out comedy films with a strangely intricate continuity and obsessive audience, and tweeting about his sex life with his wife. Because when the card-carrying fanboy turns his hand to actually writing the superhero stories he so loves, they don't turn out well. Whilst Guardian Devil is regarded as the storyline that brought Daredevil back to the mainstream after falling into popularity limbo for much of the eighties and nineties, it's not a good book. Long suffering Murdock love interest Karen Page dies, Daredevil is hypnotised into thinking a baby is the anti-Christ and nearly throws it off a roof. In the end, it turns out the whole thing has been orchestrated by Spider-Man villain Mysterio, who is dying of cancer and couldn't get final revenge on his nemesis because the Clone Saga was happening. So he messes with Daredevil instead, the confrontation ending with Matt convincing Mysterio is so useless he should kill himself. So he does.
