10 Times Spider-Man Was The DARKEST Marvel Comic

8. The Hunt For Vengeance - The Death Of Jean DeWolff

If the PS4's Spider-Man taught fans of the series anything, it's that killing people that Peter Parker is close to is generally not a wise thing to do. It's that very premise that The Death of Jean DeWolff handles in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man issues #107 – #110.

The story kicks off with Peter's friend, Captain Jean DeWolff, being brutally killed by a mysterious foe called "The Sin-Eater". The mystery of Sin-Eater's identity and the obsession in not only bringing him to justice, but genuinely making him suffer for what he's done, is something that eats away at Spider-Man throughout the series and culminates in a dark and shocking finale with Jean DeWolff's killer.

It's rare fans ever see their hero completely lose his rag, but that's what Sin-Eater achieves when he's finally brought to heel by Spidey and Daredevil here. The brutal beating Peter puts his enemy through is unsettling in just how bloody and graphic it is to look upon, but also in the reality that it is mild-mannered and wholesome Peter Parker that is the one who is dishing it out.
