10 Times Spider-Man Won A Fight He Should Have Lost

3. A Clash With Iron Man

Iron Man vs Spider-Man
Marvel Comics

During Marvel's sprawling Civil War storyline in 2006 and 2007, the heroes of the Marvel universe battle against themselves over whether masked super humans should have to declare their identities and register with the government. Originally, Spider-Man sides with Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man.

But Spider-Man steadily grows more uncomfortable with Stark's methods of imprisoning those who resist his cause, especially when he tours a new prison created in the Negative Zone. Eventually, Spider-Man joins the resistance led by Captain America. This results in a quick, but fairly brutal, battle between Iron Man and Spider-Man.

Spider-Man, though outclassed by Iron Man in terms of raw power, holds his own. But Stark had designed the new Iron Spider suit that Spider-Man is wearing during the fight, a suit boasting several built-in gadgets and additional powers. But because he designed it, Stark also was able to disable the suit, leaving Spider-Man helpless.

Spidey should have lost this battle here, and been captured by Iron Man. But in a rather unbelievable twist, because Peter Parker boasts his own scientific genius, he was able to turn his suit back on and defeat Iron Man long enough to escape into the sewers.
