8. His Weirdly Abusive Relationship With Jimmy Olsen

Jimmy Olsen is supposed to be Superman's best friend, but he must have some serious issues to continue being part of this weirdly abusive relationship with the Man of Steel. Take for example the time that the hero was told by a psychic that he would kill his own son. Desperate to make sure that never comes to pass, Superman made the baffling decision to adopt Jimmy and alienate him before he could, you know, murder him.

To achieve this, Superman verbally abused his creepy adult son and rejected or destroyed every gift the kindly Daily Planet photographer presented him with until Jimmy called it quits and got emancipated. That's pretty messed up, but so too was the time Superman pitted his pal (who had recently gained all of the powers Aquaman has) against the King of Atlantis in a cruel competition to see who could last the longest without water.

Jimmy came out on top there, but only after licking a bead of moisture from the Man of Steel's boot. No wonder Jimmy needs to sell photographs; all that cash must be going towards therapy!
