9. The Grim Knight Is Beaten Up By A Teen - The Batman Who Laughs #7
Okay, so James Gordon Jr. isn't regular by a lot of definitions of the word. He's a psychopath, if not a straight-up sociopath, and has spent a whole lot of his time in comics contriving elaborate plans to kill his long-suffering sister, also known as Batgirl.
But, crucially, he is also just a regular human, which means when he decides to fight the ultra-trained, ridiculously strong and combat-ready Grim Knight, it seems as though it's curtains for him.
Only, James is smart enough to know this, and thus pretends to ally himself with the evil alternate universe Batman, so as to put him in a false sense of security that will allow Detective Gordon's least favourite child to strike.
And strike he does, stabbing the Grim Knight repeatedly until he bleeds out on the floor. It's a brutal moment, and one that can easily take you by surprise, given how unclear it is throughout as to whether Junior is trying to redeem himself.
