8. Galileo Defeats Galactus - S.H.I.E.L.D #1
Pit Galactus, Devourer of Worlds, against one small human astronomer, and it seems obvious exactly who is going to win.
However, the obvious end result - of Galactus destroying every atom in Galileo's body - is actually not what happens, as S.H.I.E.L.D #1 reveals that Galileo, Michelangelo, and a series of other famous scientists worked together to create an invention that successfully prevented the Devourer of Worlds from making the Earth into a celestial bargain bucket.
Given that many of Marvel's most powerful superheroes have come up against Galan and found themselves decisively beaten, knowing that a bunch of powerless scientists were able to defeat him feels pretty damn bizarre.
On the plus side though, it does make Galileo seem like a stone-cold badass, which likely goes a considerable way to improving the street rep of the Father of Modern Science.
