10 Times The Joker Was Genuinely Hilarious
6. Refused To Team Up With The Red Skull - Batman/Captain America
In John Byrne's crossover, Batman/Captain America, the titular heroes discover the Red Skull is intending to obliterate Washington DC with a stolen nuclear bomb. Worse still, the nefarious Nazi has joined forces with the Joker.
To stop the Joker from potentially exposing him, the Red Skull wears a mask to hide his identity while he orchestrates his scheme with the demented clown. Because of this, the Joker doesn't have a clue he has teamed up with a Nazi until the plan is in its final stages.
Even when he sees the Red Skull wearing a Swastika-emblazoned uniform, the Joker assumes it's a Halloween costume! The Red Skull clarifies he is a proud son of Hitler's vision and the Joker has great potential as a Nazi.
Joker counters by saying "I may be a criminal lunatic, but I'm an American criminal lunatic!".
This exchange stands out, as it's one of the only times where the Ace of Knaves has been depicted as patriotic. It's also funny to see the caliph of clowns showcasing a moral high ground and accusing someone else of being too evil. I mean, the Joker knows he's evil, but at least he has standards.
