10 Times The Joker Was Genuinely Hilarious

5. Batman Steals Joker's Balloons - Batman (Film)

Since the 1970s, Jack Nicholson was known for portraying gleefully menacing characters. Because of his reputation, it seemed like perfect casting when he won the role of the Joker for the 1989 film, Batman. From start to finish, Nicholson is a comic tour-de-force, chewing every piece of scenery with boundless energy and improvised one-liners.

But Nicholson's interpretation isn't just sinister; he's also downright hilarious. Whether it's his dance in the museum or his famous line on how Gotham "needs an enema", this Joker knows how to make the audience laugh.

The funniest moment is when the Joker coaxes the people of Gotham to his parade with the promise of free money. He then releases lethal gas from his balloons, poisoning the crowd. Luckily, Batman flies in on his Batwing and collects the balloons, sending them into the sky where they can't harm the citizens.

Although the Joker has stayed level-headed when Batman has foiled his plans in the past, he has a childish tantrum, screaming "HE STOLE MY BALLOONS!". After he seemingly calms down, he politely asks his loyalest henchman, Bob, for his gun. After Bob gives his leader his weapon, Joker blasts him to death without hesitation.
