This moment comes from Uncanny X-Men #143. It was during a period when Logan’s murderous tantrums had been reigned in. With his rising popularity, Marvel didn’t want audiences to sour on one of their major cash cows.

However, by the time this issue rolled around, the folks in charge had decided it was time turn back the clock, and return Wolverine to his roots.

Nightcrawler had committed the heinous crime of kissing Wolverine’s girlfriend under the mistletoe. As you would expect, this sent the adamantium monster into a frenzy. He tried to skewer his furry friend there and then.

Mr. Crawler had his teleportation to thank for getting away, but it was by the skin of his teeth. Sure no one likes to see their partner randomly smooching their friends, but maybe there were other ways of solving the matter than murder the guy.
