8. Deimos, Son Of Ares (Wonder Woman #5)
Deimos and Phobos, sons of Ares the God of War, are causing all sorts of trouble on Earth, preparing to set off a chain of nukes in order to bring about a global holocaust. So the stakes were pretty high then. Wonder Woman, along with a handful of allies, including Steve Trevor, are transported to another realm simple known as 'Elsewhere' (true inspiration there by the writer) where they are assailed by the two gods. While her chums are fighting giant manifestations of their own fears, Deimos binds Diana in the long green tendrils of his beard, which comes within a hair's breath of DC's first case of tentacle-erotica. Despite acknowledging that Amazons are supposed to be peaceful, and with the fate of the world in the balance, Wonder Woman removes her tiara (razor-edged, apparently) and decapitates Deimos with it, "swiftly ... cleanly ... and most emphatically."
