10 Totally Unrealistic Relationships‏ In Comics History

8. She-Hulk And Juggernaut

Chuck Austen's run on X-Men is almost universally reviled for a number of reasons, with this controversial fling high up the list. In Uncanny #435 Juggernaut and She-Hulk have a one night stand that results in the heroes' bedroom resembling more of a disaster area than a love nest, but that's just one of the risks when you start fooling around with somebody with super strength. Why was it so controversial? Well, because people like to hate on Chuck Austen. Also, because it seems wildly out of character for everyone involved. She-Hulk is one of the few female characters in Marvel (or comics in general) who gets away with being promiscuous and having some agency when it comes to sex, but for the most part she sticks with heroes: Tony Stark, Hercules, various other Avengers-affiliated dreamboats. Flint Mark is a decidedly bad guy, though, and a pretty stupid one too. His superpower is that he can ram his head into things, after all. Like the Storm/Black Panther thing, the Bullpen tended to side with the fans - or at least decided to give them what they wanted - by making rumours of the hook-up a running joke for an entire series of She-Hulk's title, eventually retconning it out of existence by revealing that they slept together in an alternate reality to the "proper" Marvel universe. You know it's a bad coupling when you have to reach for the many worlds theory to undo it.
