10 Totally Unrealistic Relationships‏ In Comics History

7. Swamp Thing And Abigail Arcane

From one perspective, the romance between Swamp Thing and Abby is a beautiful thing, a classic Beauty and the Beast tale of love overcoming shallow things like appearance. From another, it looks like a cute young woman copping off with a big, gross monster made of manure and twigs. A big, gross monster made of manure and twigs that her government agent husband is meant to be hunting down, no less. After one encounter Abby falls hopelessly in love with the mysterious Swamp Thing, helped along by her latent psychic abilities and empathy (apparently that counts as a superpower in the DC universe, and everyone else is just an unrepentant jerk). Except she ends up married to Matt, the government agent, who becomes a drunk douchebag, so you can see why she might run into the arms of another man...or, monster-man. Swamp Thing is a classic, especially the seminal Alan Moore run, but it's still pretty weird that a lady would fall for...well, Swamp Thing. He is literally made of dirt. And sometimes absorbs dead or dying animals into his body. Marriage is meant to be a challenge, but that stretches credibility just a little.
