10 Most Tragic Deaths In X-Men History
3. Nightcrawler
After briefly leaving the X-Men because he felt his teleporting skills were no longer needed due to the superior teleporting skills of member Pixie, Nightcrawler changed his mind after several adventures in Germany (including one run-in with the demon Mephisto) and rejoined the team in San Francisco. Par for the course when youre a member of the X-Men, his life was action-packed in the mid-late 2000s as he helped fight the Skrulls, fought teammates Colossus and Wolverine when they were possessed by the mutant Witchfire, and even fought undead mutants in the Necrosha storyline, although he was later added to a team that was sent to investigate Muir Island. When Cable and Hope Summers came back to the present, the super-villain Bastion sent multiple X-Men villains out to kill Hope, who was believed to be the Mutant Messiah. Bastion eventually finds Hope himself and fights with Rogue and Nightcrawler before attempting to kill Hope. Nightcrawler then teleports between the two of them and is impaled by Bastions arm. In a final act of heroism, Nightcrawler grabs Hope and teleports her back to the island of Utopia. In his dying moments, he told her that he believed in her. Nightcrawler died doing one of the noblest things a person can do: protecting another. Im glad he was able to die getting Hope back to Utopia, but as Id feel with any superhero dying, it sucks that it was in battle, let alone having a robot arm plunged through your body.
