7. Bigby Wolf In Fables
Image Comics/Bill WillinghamEvery once in a while, someone will come up with an idea so brilliant, you will smack yourself and wonder why you or anybody else didn't think of it first. Bill Willingham had comic fans the world over doing just that when he debuted Fables in 2002. The story of all the classic fairytale and mythological characters in exile in their own section of New York, the main draw was the way Willingham turned character expectations on their head, starting with his pick for the lead, the Big Bad Wolf himself. That's right, after huffing and puffing and blowing their houses down, he mellowed out and when the Fables were forced to flee their homeland and relocate to the New York district known as Fablestown, he become it's trench coat clad, chain smoking sheriff and detective. His story throughout the series is one of redemption: in a world where your supposed heroes aren't all they're cracked up to be, can an old villain mend his ways and do some good? Bigby's constant struggle with his own violent nature and past actions makes for an enthralling read and as proven again in the recent prequel Telltale game The Wolf Among Us, Fables fans just can't get enough of The Big Bad Wolf.
