10 Untouchable Comics Heroes (Who Shockingly Died)

8. Supergirl - Crisis On Infinite Earths

Those among us who only know Supergirl from the excellent CW TV show might find this hard to believe but yes, in the original Crisis on Infinite Earths that the epic CW special was based on, Supergirl died. Rather horribly in fact.

Because they were rebooting the entire DC universe, DC's higher ups at the time decided to confront an issue that had been underlying the Superman mythos up until then. Namely that despite Krypton blowing to smithereens, there sure were a ton of Kryptonians just kinda hanging around, weren't there? As such it was decided that the new continuity would have Superman truly be the LAST son of Krypton by having the rest of the super-peoples killed off.

And sadly, this included the seemingly invincible Kara Danvers as well.

If nothing else, writer Marv Wolfman gave her a helluva send off, with her beating the anti-monitor into a pulp before the monster got a lucky shot in, and the world spending the whole next issue mourning her loss and the rest of the story trying to follow her example.

It was an unexpected death for readers, since super-folks were considered to be nigh-unstoppable, but at least it was a well done one.
