Robert Kirkman is well known as one of the best comic book writers of his generation thanks, in large part, to the television adaptation of his hit series, The Walking Dead. While that zombie-driven drama is certainly a great work, it's hardly his only achievement in writing comics.

Another of his many series to smashing sales is Invincible, and the series is finally getting an adaptation as an animated series for Amazon Prime Video. The show is set to release sometime in 2020 and will be based closely on the comics, which have run for 144 issues.

The show will follow the structure of the books, which are centred around Mark Grayson, the son of Nolan Grayson, aka Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet. Until his 17th birthday, Mark never manifested any superpowers, but soon after, he finds that he has the same powers as his father, though not to his level. Within short order, Mark begins learning how to be a superhero from his dad, but it doesn't last long before everything comes crashing down.

While Invincible could work as a feature film, making it into an animated series allows the creators to explore the expansive universe Kirkman created. The series will feature Steven Yeun as Mark, J.K. Simmons as Nolan, who will be joined by Sandra Oh, Seth Rogan, Mark Hamill, and many more.
