10 Upcoming Comic Book Film Adaptations You Didn't Know Were Being Made
2. The New Gods
Some of DC's more entrenched fans may already know that a New Gods film is in development, but the film hasn't garnered as much attention in the press as some of DC's other titles. Tom King, one of DC's most notable writers, began writing the film alongside director Ava DuVernay back in July 2019.
Fans of Jack Kirby's amazing world already got a hint of the series' presence in the DCEU in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice when Batman had a nightmare of the future, which featured an Omega symbol emblazoned into the ground amidst a horde of Parademons. That nod was more for Darkseid than Steppenwolf, who showed up as the big bad in Justice League.
Darkseid was originally meant to show up in that film, but he didn't make the movie's final cut, and plans for his appearance in two sequels were scrapped due to Justice League's underwhelming performance.
Fortunately, Darkseid will feature prominently in the New Gods film, though there aren't any plot summaries or indications as to how King will approach the many characters in Kirby's world in his draft of the script. Whatever happens, Kirby's dedicated fanbase will surely be paying close attention when the film hits theatres in the next few years.
