10 Utterly Ridiculous Comic Book Characters

8. Hellcow

Marvel

Hellcow is a vampiric cow in a cape. Her real name is Bessie and she was in the possession of a farmer named Hans in 1670s Switzerland. The poor cow made that mistake of being the only thing around when an absolutely famished Dracula flew into the area. The vampire king drained all the blood from the cow and left it for dead. Hans discovered Bessie and buried his beloved bovine which arose as a vampire three days later. Enraged at what it had become, Hellcow vowed to find and exact vengeance on the creature that did this to her. It was a quest that took over 300 years.

Hellcow first premiered in Giant Sized Man-Thing #5 and was created by Steve Gerber and Frank Brunner. When Bessie traveled to the United States and killed a farmer in Cleveland, she ran afoul of Howard the Duck who staked her in the heart with a wooden stake as the two battled in an auto garage.

Hellcow teamed with Deadpool when both of them worked together to escape Dr. Kilgore when the doctor kidnapped both of them to help cure his tuberculosis. Deadpool had to use comic book logic to save his new bovine friend from catching fire in the sun outside. After 60 tries in Deadpool Team-Up #885, Wade finally had to stake Bessie and remove the stake when night fell.
