10 Utterly Ridiculous Comic Book Characters

6. Ruby Thursday

Marvel Comics

There is so much wrong with Ruby Thursday. First, she gets her name from a Rolling Stones song called “Ruby Tuesday” which was about Keith Richards' girlfriend leaving him for another rock star. Second, she has a giant red ball for a head on the body of a supermodel in a tight costume. Third, she is a member of the vaguely naughty sounding Headmen, and last, she and her team regularly get beaten to a pulp by the non-team, The Defenders.

Thursday Rubinstein was created by Steve Gerber, Sal Buscema, and Jim Mooney and first appeared in The Defenders #32. She was a scientist that grafted an organic computer to her head that could assume any form she wanted. It could fire projectiles, energy blasts, and manipulate tools and weapons. She could also control her seemingly normal human body even if the head was removed.

One of Ruby’s earliest appearances was to run for President of the United States under the platform of replacing everyone’s head with an organic computer. Her Global Head Party’s slogan was “New Heads for Old.” Needless to say, she was dropped from the ticket when this was discovered. She also once tried to help secure a clone of She-Hulk’s body for fellow Headman, Chondu the Mystic. She was arrested by the NYPD without any help from a superhero.
