KISS actually have a pretty varied history of appearing in comics, starring in series from all sorts of different publishers.

After appearing in a couple of issues of Howard the Duck, the band were given their own comic as the first in a series of single issue Marvel Comics Super Specials. The issue was written by Steve Gerber, the writer of Howard the Duck who had penned the band's earlier appearances.

Weirdly though, instead of the band appearing as themselves, the members of KISS were re-imagined as a group of teenage boys who were transformed into their alter-egos by magical KISS action figures.

As the musicians/superheroes, they then travelled to the Marvel Universe and managed to somehow beat Doctor Doom, even though a member of their team was a version of Peter Criss who meowed like an actual cat.

What really made this comic stand out though was the crazy gimmick they used to promote it. Each member of the band donated some of their blood which was mixed in with the red ink used in the printing press. The comic was advertised as "Printed in real KISS blood".

The band also appeared in Marvel Comics Super Special #5. That issue was much less successful though, presumably due to the lack of Gene Simmons' blood.
