10 Weird Comic Crossovers You Won't Believe Happened
8. Batman Solves Crime With Sherlock Holmes
The idea of fiction's two greatest detectives teaming up isn't necessarily that weird. But the way DC did it certainly was.
In a special anniversary comic, Batman and Robin travelled to London to stop Moriarty's descendant from killing the Queen. They were helped out by an elderly gentleman who soon revealed himself as none other than Sherlock Holmes.
It seems like a team-up that makes sense. After all, they're both brilliant but eccentric detectives who solve crimes with the help of a sidekick. The slight problem with this though is that Sherlock was in his 30's in the books and this comic was published in the 1980's, making Holmes at least 130 years old.
It gets weirder when you consider that in the world of DC Comics, time-travel both exists and is easily accessible. Batman could have travelled back in time to Victorian England or Holmes could have been brought forward into the present.
Instead, we have an impossibly old Sherlock Holmes running around London (still in a deerstalker) and judo flipping bad guys, with the only explanation being that a good diet and some special honey have kept him alive all these years.
The Joker also once met Sherlock Holmes, although it turned out just to be an actor with a head injury who mistook Joker for Moriarty. See, that's a much more logical plot.
