Goober was the pet squirrel of the reformed thief and hacker known as Giz. He was nearly always at his owner's side, often sitting on his shoulder or head, and stayed with him when Giz went straight with the help of the hero Nightwing.

Giz would often talk to Goober as he worked and would receive replies from him in the form of 'chee's and 'chit's. It was so uncommon to see the two of them apart that Giz's girlfriend, Mouse, even remarks upon it when she finds Goober alone. After Giz's death, Goober would pass into the care of Mouse.

Although he is a regular squirrel Goober is shown to be very intelligent. He climbs on top of a laptop to make reference to Giz and also goes to collect Mouse to alert her of Giz's death. He is shown to be highly sociable, although his bond with Giz was certainly the strongest, as he seemed most comfortable perching on him while he rarely climbed on Giz's friends or even Mouse.
