10 Weird Moments You Forgot Happened In Iconic Comics

8. Professor X's Confession

Aquaman DC
Marvel Comics

In the third issue of X-Men, the team battle the Blob; a morbidly obese mutant whose body is resistant to almost any injury. Because the Blob is the oldest recurring foe to the X-Men apart from Magneto, this story would be considered a significant issue.

But there's one moment that is tossed into the story so randomly, most readers forget about it. Just before Jean Grey encounters the Blob, her mentor, Professor Charles Xavier tells her to be careful. As she walks away, Xavier's admits to himself that he is in love with her.

He says that he won't act on his impulses since "I've no right! Not while I'm the leader of the X-Men, and confined to this wheelchair." He never points out that he shouldn't pursue Jean Grey because he is about four decades older and she is, y'know, 15 years old!! Considering Xavier is one of the most beloved and inspirational comic book characters, this revelation seems to completely contradict his character.

Weirder still, this revelation wasn't mentioned again... for 32 years. When Jean Grey encountered an entity called Onslaught (who was actually made of Xavier's psychic energy but let's not get into that,) she learned that the man who she always saw as a father figure has been in love with her since she was a teenager.
