7. Aquaman Was Originally Human

As is depicted in the Aquaman film, Arthur Curry's father was a lighthouse keeper and his mother, Atlanna was an Atlantean. Although Atlanteans can't live long out of water, Arthur Curry can easily survive in and out of ocean due to being a human/Atlantean hybrid. Over time, he became the king of Atlantis and a member of the Justice League, Aquaman.

However, his debut comic depicted the marine superhero very differently. When the character first appeared nearly 80 years ago, Aquaman was 100% human.

Wait, if that's the case, how could he possibly breathe underwater? Well, his father discovered the ruins of Atlantis and learned of the ancient civilisations' secrets by reading its textbooks. He then passed these teachings down to his son including how to draw "oxygen from sea." This means that Aquaman could breathe underwater and swim as efficiently as a fish because he read it in a book.

This explanation was considered silly (even back then) and so Aquamann was rewritten as an Atlantean hybrid 17 years after his debut.
