10 Worst Marvel Superhero Costumes Of All Time

6. Tigra

Emma Frost
Marvel

What can be said about Tigra? Greer Nelson is a werecat created by two women, Linda Fite and Marie Severin, during the time of the relaxing of the Comic Code Authority. And for most of her career, she has fought supervillains and street criminals in a string bikini. Even putting aside the obvious sexualization of females, how does the thing stay tied or even on in a violent fight? Why not a leotard or gymnastics wear?

In She-Hulk Vol. 3 #5, Tigra stated that she wears bikinis because a full set of clothes would cause her to overheat in normal or warm situations and potentially pass out. Her thick coat of fur prevents her from losing body heat quickly, and Greer has also stated that the bikinis never were the costume. She said that she was the costume and was never concerned about any attention that her limited clothing might garner.

There is a school of thought that said the bikini wasn’t even necessary. The similar-looking DC character Cheetah has been portrayed in both the female and male incarnations wearing nothing at all. The gigantic fur-covered Alpha Flight member Sasquatch doesn’t wear clothes and nor does the Russian mutant Ursa Major. So, is Tigra actually more modest than she gets credit for?
