10 Worst Marvel Superhero Costumes Of All Time

3. No Pants Hawkeye

Emma Frost
Marvel Comics

Hawkeye has never been known for his fashion sense. He has chosen purple and blue as his signature colors with a big “H” in the middle of his finned cowl. For much of his career as Hawkeye, Clint Barton would wear a variation of this classic costume, sometimes with bare arms and sometimes completely covered. But not this time.

In Avengers #98, after a stint as Goliath in an already extremely questionable outfit, Clint returned to his bow and arrows. The outfit he choose was something that was more apropos to his Avengers colleague Hercules than an acrobatic bowman. It was a blue tunic with a “V” cut in the front down to his navel with purple accents, a purple belt and purple pirate boots. Strangely, he abandoned his mask in favor of a purple headband. He still wore the guard on the bow arm to guard against burn from the bowstring, but wore only a studded bracelet on the other.

More than anything, this outfit looked like Hawkeye merely forget to wear his pants one day, but he actually kept this look for a while. As many of his female counterparts know, being a normal human who has to land on hard surfaces needs more protection than bare skin. And if this costume was meant as some kind of titillation, it missed the mark, badly.
