10 Worst Things Captain America Has Done

3. Decapitating Baron Blood – Captain America #254

Captain America Mystique
Marvel Comics

The sight of a comic book hero killing somebody is always a little jarring and causes you to do a double-take. But Captain America – the insta-smiling, baby-kissing, whiter-than-white, flag-waving good guy – murdering somebody in cold blood? That could never happen. Only it did. And it was brutal.

Brought over to the UK by Union Jack and Spitfire to assist in their hunt to find a killer that was terrorising the country, Cap went one better and didn’t just find said killer; he well and truly put a stop to the rogue’s rampage.

It was Baron Blood who was on a murder spree here, and clearly he caught Steve Rogers on a bad day. Upon confronting Blood, Captain America used his trusty shield to decapitate the villain. Bar the obvious allusion that Cap had killed people during World War II, this was the first time that Marvel Comics had shown this beloved hero taking someone’s life.

Luckily for Baron Blood, he’s a comic book character. And we all know, death isn’t exactly a permanent arrangement when it comes to comics. As such, he’d be briefly resurrected in 1987 before several other appearances over the subsequent years.
