10 Worst Things Comic Villains Have Done To Regular People

Why can't these super-villains just play fair for once in their lives?

Is it just us, or is it a weird time to be a regular person in the world right now?

Between... everything that's going on right now, you really couldn't be blamed for relying heavily on escapist entertainment these days. There's nothing better right now than delving into your favourite comic books, and just imagining how nice it would be to escape to Superman's universe and live there for a while.

Unless, of course, you were still a regular person in Superman's universe. With all those nasty villains running around, it's not exactly a safe place to be a civilian.

Occasionally, these baddies can really cross the line. While it's all part and parcel of being a super-scoundrel to terrorise the ordinary folk, the rogues on this list really crossed the line. A lot of the following misdeeds are properly evil and thoroughly messed-up, so please think twice before clicking on that NEXT button!

If you do choose to continue, prepare yourself for ten reasons that current events, extreme political divides, and looming financial disaster may not be the worst possible things to happen after all. Relatively speaking, of course.

10. Joker Goes After The Gordon Women - Batman

Joker Mrs. Gordon Death of the Family
DC Comics

Joker's history of torturing Barbara Gordon's Batgirl is well documented at this point. However, she is not the only one of the Gordon gals that he has targeted over his long reign as the Clown Prince of Crime.

For example, there's the time he kidnaps Barbara's mother, tying her to a chair with a bomb underneath it in the middle of a roller disco. As if the very idea of visiting a roller disco isn't bad enough, Batgirl is forced into marrying the evil clown if she wants her mother to survive.

Then there's the time Joker kidnaps every baby in Gotham. When Sarah Essen-Gordon, Batgirl's stepmother, discovers where he's hiding the newborns, he rewards her for her bravery with a bullet in the head.

Alongside the infamous time in The Killing Joke when he paralyses and violates Barbara, Joker seems to have a real beef with any woman related to Commissioner Jim Gordon. This is perhaps the most disgusting part of the whole ordeal: it's all for Jim. Joker couldn't care less about the women he's physically attacking, murdering, or permanently harming: it's all in the name of psychologically torturing Jim Gordon.

We've said it before and we'll say it again: this Joker guy sounds like a real jerk!
