4. Doctor Doom Turned Him Into A Wall - Secret Wars #6 (2015)
If you thought being trapped in a rock-like body like Thing must be depressing, the Secret Wars mini-series proved it could a lot worse.
After Doctor Doom became a deity called God Emperor Doom, he rewrote the multiverse in his image. Not only did the Fantastic Four's nemesis have the power to change reality but he could also rewrite anyone's personality. He changed Sue Storm into his devoted wife, Galactus into his personal bodyguard, and Johnny Storm into the actual sun (although that last one was Sue's fault, technically).
As for Ben Grimm, Doom made him protect the realm of Doomstadt from potential invaders. Instead of guarding Doomstadt like, y'know, a guard, Doom transformed Ben into a wall that surrounded his entire domain. What's worse is that the Latverian monarch reshaped Ben's mind so he believed he was doing a great service to Doom, who he perceived as his friend.
Only after blindly serving his God Emperor for months did Ben realise he was being manipulated by the maniacal monarch. In an interesting twist of fate, Ben discovered this from, of all people, Thanos the Mad Titan! So... thanks Thanos.
