10 Worst Things That Ever Happened To The Thing

3. He Turned Evil - Fear Itself #3 (2011)

The Thing Mutation
Marvel Comics

During the Fear Itself saga, Thor's uncle, Cul Borson, planned to take over the world because... it's fun, I guess. As the self-proclaimed God of Fear made his preparations, he sent out seven enchanted hammers that transformed anyone who wielded them into Cul's god-like servants.

Because the hammers were designed to seek out the seven strongest beings on Earth, it was no surprise that one of them found its way into the hands of the Thing.

After coming into contact with the magical mallet, Thing was transformed into Angrir, Breaker of Souls. Even though his friends tried to reason with him, Cul's hold over the orange-skinned superhero was too strong to overcome. He rampaged through New York, toppled buildings, and attacked anyone who crossed his path including Reed, Sue, and Spider-Man. He even tried to kill his lover, Alicia Masters.

When Thing returned to normal, his friends reminded him that nothing he did as Angrir was his fault since he wasn't in control of his mind. Nevertheless, Thing was utterly ashamed he allowed himself to be corrupted and that he nearly killed his friends.
