7. Katma Tui Is Slain By Star Sapphire
An unexpected and unnecessary comic book moment, this Green Lantern was killed by Star Sapphire to simply make a point.
A member of the Green Lantern Corps from Korugar, Katma Tui also became the wife of back-up Lantern John Stewart.
Originally the villainous Sinestro's replacement in the Corps, Katma Tui was a brave and compassionate warrior who helped defend the multiverse in the cataclysmic Crisis on Infinite Earths. Falling in love with John Stewart, she married her former partner and tried to make a life with him.
Their life together, unfortunately, would be short-lived.
Settled on Earth together, Katma Tui was caught off-guard by Hal Jordan's nemesis and former girlfriend Star Sapphire. Depowered and in a state of retiral, Katma Tui was murdered in her kitchen by the villain. The reason? Star Sapphire wanted to send a message to Jordan, proving she was still a worthy threat to him.
A rift grew between Hal and John, with the back-up Lantern wanting to go after Star Sapphire. Hal defended the insane, possessed Carol - a move which tested their friendship.
John Stewart's life began to spiral out of control following his wife's death, culminating in him failing to save the planet Xanshi from Darkseid's anti-life equation.
