10 Worst Things To Ever Happen To Green Lantern

6. Alan Scott's Earth 2 Origin

2012's reimagining of Golden Age heroes gave Alan Scott a new, devastating origin story.

As seen in the New 52's Earth 2 run, Alan Scott was revealed to be the young head of a media conglomerate in a parallel world. Preparing to propose to his boyfriend Sam on a trip to China, the bullet train they were travelling on was mysteriously derailed.

Sam was instantly killed in the high-speed train crash, but Scott survived - consumed by a green flame which repaired his burnt and mangled body. Radiating him in the strange energy, a disembodied voice told Scott that he was to become a warrior of 'The Green'.

Stricken by grief and enraged at whoever caused the 'accident', Scott vowed to seek revenge and defend his Earth from an oncoming threat. Generating him a costume and moulding his engagement ring into a power ring, the green flame helped Scott become Earth 2's Green Lantern.

His first mission: search for survivors of the train crash and investigate whatever, or whoever, caused it to derail.

Sam would later return to haunt Scott in visions created by The Grey - the sworn enemy of The Green - but would ultimately fuel this Green Lantern's quest for justice and vengeance.
