10 Worst Things To Ever Happen To Green Lantern

4. Hal Goes Insane And Becomes Parallax

Refusing to grant Hal Jordan the power to resurrect his beloved Coast City, the Green Lantern went mad and took matters into his own hands.

During 1994's Emerald Twilight, Jordan decided to slaughter most of the Green Lantern Corps, steal their rings and drain the central battery in order to wield more power. Believing he would be able to rebuild his home by consuming Oa's core, Jordan cut down anyone who got in his way.

This included killing his friends and colleagues Tomar-Tu, Kilowog, and many of the Lanterns he had trained and fought alongside over the years. Even Sinestro, who had been imprisoned on Oa, was released by the Guardians as a final line of defence. He too would fall to Hal Jordan's rapidly growing power.

Finally arriving on Oa to drain the battery, even the Guardians were unable to stop the universe's most powerful Green Lantern. Entering the planet's core, Hal Jordan emerged with a new costume and a new identity - Parallax.

Years later, it would be revealed that Hal had actually been possessed by an embodiment of fear. Parallax had invaded his mind in his moment of grief on Earth and was using him as a host.

The Green Lantern Corps would later be rebuilt, but this bloodbath was one of the Lanterns' darkest days.
