10 X-Men Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die
9. Days Of Future Past
Back in 1981, Chris Claremont and John Byrne came up with the idea to base a story in two different timelines, that of the current year and one set in the way distance future of 2013.
With their planet ravaged, due to Mystique and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants assassinating presidential candidate Robert Kelly, thus bringing about the Sentinal program that jackboots its way through the world, killing or imprisoning anyone with even the hint of super-powers about them, Rachel Summers sends an older version of Kitty Pryde back in time to make sure this never happens.
When she finally convinces them that she's not as mad as a sack of rabid badgers, that have been poked continually with a very large stick, the past versions of the X-Men rush to do everything they can to stop the future from happening, culminating in them foiling the assassination from happening, thus averting the horror that would otherwise await them.
Following hard on the heels of the smash success that was the Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past didn't sell as well as its more popular sibling, but time has seen it become one of the most beloved stories in the X-Men's history and is worth a place on anyone's shelf.
