10 X-Men Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

8. New X-Men

X Men Nineties
Marvel Comics

In the same vein as the Joss Whedon entry, Grant Morrison's take on the X-Men cannot be broken down into just one specific story. Not when the quality on offer, from the Scottish bard, is so breathtaking in its utter brilliance.

Starting in 2001 and running all the way through to 2004, Morrison's three-year stint at the helm of Marvel's favorite mutants would see them be put through the wringer on multiple occasions. And all of it was brought to life by his frequent collaborator, and partner in crime, Frank Quitely.

Set after the destruction of Genosha, the two introduce a myriad of characters into the fold. There's the mutant Xorn, as well a Quentin Quire, who is fully realized as the super intelligent Kid Omega, and that's just naming two who flesh out an already stellar line up.

With more shocking plots than you could shake a secondary mutated Beast at, including the superb Planet X, every one of these books deserves a place on any comic book fan's shelf.
