10 Zany Comic Book Movies That Would Send Fans Wild

5. Ambush Bug

It's hard to imagine a more zany comic book character than DC's Ambush Bug... Seriously. Just try it. His origin story alone boggles the mind. When alien Brum-El realizes that the planet Schwab is doomed, he sends his clothes off in a spaceship, hoping that they will survive. Why protect the children when your wardrobe is in danger, right? Unfortunately, the ship was intercepted by a giant radioactive space spider, so ultimately, only two items of clothing survived. One was the Ambush Bug suit, discovered by a human called Irwin Schwab. The other was Argh Yle, a sock who wore a metal mask and possessed megalomaniac tendencies... If that's not crazy enough for you, then it's also worth mentioning that Ambush Bug has a sidekick called Cheeks, the Toy Wonder. In the comics, Cheeks eventually died in the line of duty, but then returned briefly as a zombie before being eventually restored to his natural state. Oh, did we forget to mention that Cheeks is an inanimate doll who Ambush Big dressed up as a sidekick?

Ambush Bug is undeniably one of the most absurd characters ever seen in a comic book, but his memorable guest appearances in more mainstream DC titles has gained him a cult following among fans. A movie could explore Ambush Bug's unique ability to recognize the fact that he is a fictional character and break through the fourth wall, deconstructing superhero conventions in a direct dialogue with the audience. Hardcore comic book fans would love this, but it's hard to imagine mainstream audiences enjoying the experience as much. Maybe Ambush Bug would work better in the DC animation line...
