11 More Insane Alternative Versions Of Superman You Won't Believe

3. Son Of Zod

Superman: The Dark Side
DC Comics

Based in the universe of Bruce Timm's beloved ‘Justice League: Gods and Monsters', this version of Supes was the son of General Zod rather than Jor-El, with Zod injecting his DNA into the rocket. When the ship reached earth it landed along the US-Mexican border and found and raised by a Mexican couple before the government show up to investigate.

The young ‘Lor-Zod’ is found by the Mexican couple while they are sneaking across the border and raised in the Mexican culture with the name Hernan Guerra. Here, Superman is a Mexican. And while that might confound a few ignorant heads, it reiterates how Superman as a symbol transcends national borders. A great comic to revisit in 2017 then, wouldn't you say?

Hernan never sported the traditional Superman garb, but he did adopt the red and black colour scheme from the character's original animated appearances. This Superman also doesn't take much issue with killing enemies, so if you like your Superman without the homocidal ideation, then you may want to steer clear of this particular version.

Guerra's Superman formed the Justice League with the Batman and Wonder Woman of this universe. His ultimate desire was to help humanity and by working alongside the government they could keep the peace and maintain order. However, many opposed Superman and the Justice League, believing them to be too powerful.
