12 Greatest Marvel Superheroes Of All Time

3. Jean Grey

Marvel Universe Alex Ross
Marvel Comics

Jean Grey, the original Marvel Girl, is one of the publisher's most powerful female characters. After debuting in The X-Men #1 in 1963 (Thank to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby once again), she developed into not only one of the most powerful psychics in the Marvel Universe, but a cosmic entity capable of incredible power.

Prior to becoming the host to the Phoenix Force, Jean Grey was resigned to the X-Men and its associated characters. When the Dark Phoenix Saga began hitting shelves in the late seventies and early eighties, she was elevated to epic proportions within the Marvel Universe.

Since that time, Jean Grey has continued to evolve and change into the powerful character she is today. She has appeared in several movies, animated series, and thousands of comics since she first appeared more than 50 years ago.

What makes Jean Grey fascinating isn't the fact that she's powerful, it's that she is so powerful, her mind had to be suppressed to ensure she didn't endanger... everyone. Her potential is what brings the readers back for more - that and her commanding presence within the X-Men accompanied with the respect she demands throughout the Marvel Universe, which makes her a fascinating character.
