The Punisher the most visceral, bad ass anti-hero in comic book history. A psychopath more than a man, whose blood-thirsty mission to rid the world of the scum that feed on the innocent has left a longer trail of corpses than the victim list of all of his enemies combined. Take no prisoners, shoot first and ask no questions, show no mercy these are the virtues at the heart of Frank Castle. This is a man who has fought hero and villain alike in his quest a man who can boast going toe-to-toe with Batman and The god damn Avengers in his lifetime. Unfortunately, he can also boast about teaming up with Riverdale High Schools most beloved oaf. In the 1990s crossover The Punisher Meets Archie, Frankie stumbles into Riverdale while on the hunt for the notorious drug dealer Red, who just happens to look exactly like everyones favorite 17-year old, accident-prone ginger. This one-shoot comic features the expected hijinx of mistaken identity and buffoonery that one would expect from such an outlandish story-line, while also featuring one of the most neutered versions of The Punisher ever to appear on page. Apparently this time around Frank is working for the government which means he has to promise not to kill because every time the government employs a sadistic mass murderer they have to take that vow. In the end Archie helps The Punisher save the day, and Frank is so impressed by the towns wide-eyed innocence he decides to take Red in instead of bludgeoning him like he probably originally planned. The issue ends with a tease for a Jugghead/Wolverine crossover, which thank the good lord never happened. But that didnt save the Ol Canucklehead from popping up on this list.
