13 Fantastic Four Stories & Villains We Could See In MCU Phase 4
7. Nu-World
In the story, World's Greatest, a secret agency contacts Reed Richards to alert him that they need his scientific mind for the most daunting task in human history. This agency has learned that the Earth will die in ten years and so, have begun building another planet called Nu-World.
Naturally, Richards dismisses this proclamation and tries to devise a solution to stop the Earth from dying.
Sadly, he fails. Try as he might, he acknowledges that his world will die and there is nothing he can do to stop it.
This is a great story because it subverts expectations. Usually when it looks like the Fantastic Four are about to be defeated, Richards will create a scientific device, spout some technical mumbo jumbo, and vanquish the threat. The best example of this trope is when he defeated Galactus with The Ultimate Nullifier. Even though Richards used this device against Galactus over 50 years ago, it has NEVER been explained what the Nullifier is!!
It's boring how Richards seems to "science" his way out of every situation. That's why the Fantastic Four stories are at their best when Richards cannot solve a problem. Sometimes, it's not about how the hero is going to resolve a crisis but how they are going to deal with it when they fail.
