13 Truths Comic Book Fans Would Never Admit To Themselves

3. You Like Scantily-Clad Superheroines

What You Say: The treatment of women in comics is disgusting. Look at how they treat the female characters. Look at how they€™re always drawn with massive breasts, overly sexualized poses, and then there are the costumes. Lady Death, Psylocke, Witchblade, Vampirella, Power Girl, Darkchylde, Huntress, Fairchild, Zealot, Star Sapphire, and countless other heroines are put in outfits more suited for lap-dances than battles. Who would ever think these characters are sexy? But What You Really Mean: First a disclaimer. This is not meant to dismiss the many legitimate arguments against either the treatment of female characters or the way they€™re drawn by artists. The costumes are objectively ridiculous, gravity-defying breasts that dwarf the character€™s heads have become a cliché, and the hyper-sexualization of women in comics absolutely needs to change. That being said, the costumes are not without their appeal to a segment of the audience. Even the most feminist-minded straight male would look at some of those costumes and probably thinks in a corner of his mind, €œyeah, that€™s kinda hot.€ What can we say? Guys are idiots and our bodies are built with a brain and a penis and only enough blood to operate one at a time.
