13 Truths Comic Book Fans Would Never Admit To Themselves

2. You Will Buy Any Crossover

What You Say: Crossovers are ridiculous. Civil War, Secret Invasion, Infinite/Final Crisis, Blackest Night, Fear Itself, and more, ad nauseam. Each one forces you to buy not only the titles you€™re already reading, but also an extra two dozen books that cross over into the story, plus countless mini-series launched just to have MORE tie-ins. Each one promises that €œnothing will EVER be the same again!€ which everyone knows is a lie and things will change right back to normal in a few years. Nothing more than a money-making gimmick and it€™s gotten out of control. But What You Really Mean: It€™s a money-making gimmick that works. No matter how much you complain about crossovers and the events that have gotten so common they€™re now an annual inevitability, you buy them. You buy other books that the books you€™re reading cross over into. You buy the mini-series and one-shots as well. Because let€™s face it, publishers only put out these events because they mean a boost in sales. And if they mean a boost in sales, that means people must be buying them. A lot of people. So if you want crossovers to stop, then stop buying them. Marvel and DC will stop making them if they lead to a sales drop instead of a boost.
