Gordon Thomas has the usual, sad backstory. His brother dies in war, his wife leaves him and takes his son, and then he loses his job. As his sadness turns into hatred, he decides to seek retribution. He has all the makings of a supervillain and even manages to defeat Spidey in their first face off.

Typeface’s plan to take revenge on the man who cost him his job is accidentally foiled by Spider-Man, who is fighting a giant spider-hybrid creature. The villain senses an opportunity and tries to escape while Spidey pleads for help.

Having flashbacks to his brother’s death, Typeface has a change of heart and helps the Spider to escape. The two take down the spider-hybrid and he promises to change his ways. Unfortunately, his old boss has found the detonator remote and blows up the entire building, thinking it was a mobile phone.

Thomas would later return, having somehow survived the explosion. Keeping to his word, he takes on a gang and brings down the new vigilante, Spellcheck. Who was inspired by Typeface. Which is insane. Because he literally just stuck letters all over himself. Not even in any order. I need to go lie down...
