9. The Joker Kills An Unpopular Child

The Joker has a tendency of turning up at those sorts of moments. When it came for the second Robin, the universally despised Jason Todd, to meet his maker, there was no debate other who would be the one to do the deed. But the fashion in which The Joker introduced Robin to his maker was really, really upsetting.

Saying Jason Todd was so unanimously reviled isn't hyperbole. The second Robin, replacing Dick Grayson after he grew up and became Nightwing, was a violent unruly brat who Batman has as much trouble sympathising with as readers. It got so bad DC took a call-in poll to see if people wanted to see Jason live or die.

Which is how he came to be beaten to death with a wrench by The Joker in the pages of miniseries Batman: A Death In The Family. As if that wasn't messed up enough, this was a title especially created so a child could be killed, as a result of the popular vote from comic book readers. That is downright psychopathic on everyone's parts, not just The Joker's.
